The “Children’s Playground,” designed by architect Toyo Ito, has been completed between the Terunobu Fujimori/Tearoom Tetsu and the Tadao Ando/Museum of Light.
When conceiving this space, Mr. Ito envisioned a place where children could run around and spend their time freely while connecting with nature—featuring earthen towers, mounds, and cave-like spaces. Children can climb the mounds, descend into the hollows, sing, chat, play musical instruments, and read aloud. The design also incorporates the hope that, during cherry blossom season, both adults and children can enjoy hanami together beneath the cherry trees.
